Carrier Onboarding & Dispatcher Responsibilities

Learning goal: Build a safe, complete carrier profile before searching freight.

  1. Request the carrier’s legal business name, USDOT/MC information, current authority status and insurance details; verify independently using official sources.
  2. Record equipment type, cargo dimensions, payload from actual truck specifications, liftgate capacity, pallet-jack availability, lanes, driver hours and preferred pickup windows.
  3. Use a written agreement that identifies the services you provide, fees, payment terms and who can accept loads. Dispatchers acting as carrier agents should understand federal broker-versus-agent rules; a dispatch agreement does not automatically authorize brokerage.
  4. Never share a carrier’s login, insurance certificate or authority documents with an unverified broker. Obtain carrier permission for any booking.
