Broker Calls, Booking & Tracking
Learning goal: Use a consistent call and documentation checklist.
- Introduce yourself as an authorized dispatch representative of the carrier. State equipment, location, availability and requested load details.
- Before booking, confirm pickup/delivery addresses and windows, commodity, weight, dimensions, agreed linehaul and accessorial pay, detention rules and payment requirements.
- Have the carrier review and approve the load. Obtain the rate confirmation and compare it to the verbal agreement before dispatching the driver.
- Track pickup, in-transit updates, delivery and exceptions. For a breakdown or missed appointment, notify the carrier and broker promptly; document agreed changes.
Student practice assignment — open
Role-play a broker call. Ask about commodity, exact weight, pickup appointment, liftgate requirements, total pay and detention. Draft a short pickup update.
